A “SLAPP” lawsuit, which stands for Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation, is a retaliatory civil lawsuit where the alleged injury is the result of petitioning or free speech activities. To protect petitioning and free speech, an "anti-SLAPP" motion allows the court to weed out cases that lack merit.
